About DEAD BEAT

Watch industry. No filter.

DEAD BEAT covers the business of watches for people who love watches. Not the press releases — the economics, the supply chains, the pricing, and the numbers the marketing is built on top of.

Who writes it

Everything here runs under the masthead rather than a personal byline. Not for mystery: because the publication, not any individual, takes responsibility for every word. What we will tell you about the person behind it is the part that matters to your reading — the editor builds watches. Analysis here comes off a bench, not out of a press room, which is why we can evaluate a movement decision or a service claim rather than repeat one.

What "no filter" actually commits us to

What we won't do

We criticise companies, strategies, products and prices — freely and by name. We don't go after private individuals, we don't publish rumour as fact, and we don't make accusations of wrongdoing without a public record behind them. Being unsparing about a business decision and being reckless about a person are different things, and only one of them is journalism.

Corrections

Errors are corrected in the article itself, with a dated note, promptly and without burying. No stealth edits. A masthead that doesn't put its name on the door has nothing to trade on except this, so it is the policy we take most seriously. If we've got something wrong, tell us: editor@deadbeat.watch. Corrections are the mail we most want to receive.

How to follow

The newsletter — The Dead Beat Dispatch — is weekly, free and unsponsored. There's also an RSS feed if you'd rather not hand over an email address, which is a perfectly reasonable preference.
